TIAO Supports Streamlining Environmental Permissions for Microbreweries and Nanobreweries

TIAO recently submitted feedback for a provincial consultation on proposals to streamline environmental permissions for microbreweries and nanobreweries. The proposals include a regulatory change allowing microbreweries producing no more than 49,000 hL annually to self-register with the Air Emissions Environmental Activities and Sector Registry (EASR) through a rules-based EASR; this would ensure that microbreweries that are not close to the emissions cap will not be required to hire a licensed engineering practitioner to inspect and report on their emissions.

TIAO had previously called on the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks for a rules-based EASR for microbreweries, as it would reduce business costs and burdens while ensuring that all activity is within the mandated limits. TIAO is pleased to support this consultation proposal, which will support the recovery of small operators and encourage more small-scale breweries to enter the market.
